My recent contribution as an expert asked to contribute to the below 👇 article on LinkedIn (you'll see my contribution if you read the whole article) 🙂

Article title on LinkedIn: You're aiming to showcase your passion in an interview. How can you best convey your enthusiasm for the role?

Picture
The (above) photo isn't just a nice representation for my article, but they are 6 feet away, too! 😊 (Recall 6 feet is the social distance measurement to prevent getting Covid/sick in general).
When you're in an interview, displaying genuine enthusiasm for the role can significantly impact your chances for success. It's not just about what you say, but how you say it. Your body language, the tone of your voice, and the examples you choose to share all contribute to conveying passion. You want to leave no doubt in the interviewer's mind that you're excited about the opportunity and ready to contribute positively to their organization.

1 Show Preparation Demonstrating that you've thoroughly prepared for the interview is a key way to show passion. Go beyond the job description; research the company's history, culture, and recent achievements. Reference specific projects or initiatives that excite you, and explain why. This level of detail shows that you're not only interested in the role but also invested in the company's future and eager to be a part of it.

2 Tell Stories Your past experiences are a goldmine for showcasing passion. When discussing your background, opt for storytelling over reciting facts. Narratives about challenges you've overcome or projects you've spearheaded will resonate more than a list of past job titles. This approach also allows you to inject emotion and enthusiasm into your responses, making your passion for your work palpable.

3 Use Positive Language The words you choose can significantly influence how your passion is perceived. Employ positive, active language and avoid negatives or qualifiers that might undermine your enthusiasm. Phrases like "I'm excited about..." or "I'm passionate about..." followed by specifics about the role or company can strongly convey your eagerness and positive attitude.

4 Display Curiosity Curiosity is a hallmark of passion. Ask insightful questions that show you've thought deeply about the role and the company. This can not only demonstrate your enthusiasm but also your commitment to growing within the organization. It's a chance to engage with the interviewer on a more profound level and show that your interest goes beyond just landing the job.

5 Reflect Excitement Non-verbal cues are incredibly telling. Maintain eye contact, nod in agreement, and smile when appropriate. Your body language should mirror the excitement in your words. Even if you're nervous, try to ensure that your enthusiasm overshadows your anxiety. This can be contagious, often leading the interviewer to feel excited about your potential contribution to their team.

6 Follow up After the interview, send a personalized thank you note expressing your gratitude for the opportunity to interview and reiterating your enthusiasm for the role. This not only shows good manners but reinforces your interest in the position. It's a simple yet effective way to leave a lasting impression.

What I contributed to the article (based on limited character count provided to me): It's the little things to remember: 1) Aim to be at the in-person interview at least 15 minutes prior so that you have time to check-in, hit the restroom, & breathe so you're not stressed/frazzled running in last minute. If it's a remote interview be there at least 10 minutes prior so that you can ensure you have time to breathe & allow for potential delays/relax and NOT miss when they come on to greet you. 2) Have 2 pens with you besides a notebook to take notes (the second pen is in case the one dies). 3) Ensure your clothing isn't wrinkled & you're dressed appropriately (no low-cut tops).

Feel free to public comment to my (above) article contribution on LinkedIn (here's the link to the above) article: https://www.linkedin.com/advice/3/youre-aiming-showcase-your-passion-interview-how-can-pj6fc?trk=contr&utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_ios&utm_campaign=share_via

Consultation option #1: 30-minute career & resume consultation (I will have you fill out a 9-question form PRIOR to the call so I can get a better idea of your career goals & needs & will be something I can discuss along with my recommendations on improving your resume [I will look at your resume on my own time PRIOR to the call] as well as tailored to you service recommendations & pricing details at the phone call as well). The ability for us to ask/answer any questions we may have during this timeframe as well. NOTE: You don't have to have a resume to do this consultation. These are just some examples, I offer many other services. 😊

Consultation option #2: 30-minute LinkedIn consultation & LinkedIn profile review (I will have you fill out a 4-question form PRIOR to the call so that I can get a better idea of your LinkedIn needs & goals so that I can provide tailored to you LinkedIn service/(s) & pricing I offer at the call as well as discuss my recommendations on improving your LinkedIn profile) [as I would have looked at it PRIOR to the call on my own time]. These are just some examples, I offer many other services. 😊

Consultation option #4: 30-min. to discuss any questions/situations you may have in your career or business where you'd want to enlist my advice & guidance. I always recommend clients send me their questions/topics that they want to discuss BEFOREHAND so that I can review them & best estimate the time needed so that they can purchase the appropriate time for the consultation. Plus, it ensures we best maximize the call time & ensure something doesn't get forgotten (to discuss). Career joke

Dead in the water

Picture
An executive was interviewing a young man for a position in her company. After asking the candidate the standard questions about his experience, she decided she wanted to find out a little more about his personality. The executive then asked him, "If you could have a conversation with someone, living or dead, who would it be?" Without hesitation, the young man responded, "The living one."

The joke (above) is courtesy of Woman's World Magazine 6/24/24 issue.

Some interesting facts & stats

  • 77% of recruiters see grammatical mistakes and typos as dealbreakers.

  • Roughly 40% of people lie on their resumes.

  • 9.92% of companies use social media platforms to look up candidates.

  • Millennials have the highest rates of unemployment and underemployment. (Definition of a millennial are people born between 1981 and 1995). Millennials who have a Ph.D. report being underemployed, while 30% of millennials with an M.D. have said the same. Millennials are also considered the most educated, with almost 79% holding at least a Bachelor's degree.

The facts & stats provided above are courtesy of "30-Mind-Blowing Interview Statistics to Get You Going in 2023" article written by Marija Lazic and last updated May 20, 2023.

Phone consultations are available for purchase thru Mon. 9/30/24 BEFORE 11:30 pm PST

The above consultation is great for those who aren't ready to commit to a brand-new resume creation by me/may just want to get recommendations for improving their resume if they want to implement themselves.

Ask America's Ultimate Experts: Help! I'm too hard on myself!

Picture

Article courtesy of Woman's World Magazine issue 3/28/22.

Women berate themselves 10 times a day, say researchers. Here, easy ways to mute your inner critic and treat yourself with more compassion.

Be kind to you
Listen to signals

When that voice in your head sows seeds of doubt, you first instinct is to push it aside--but listening to it will help you free yourself, says expert Bonnie Weiss. "Ask yourself, 'What's this really about?' People often find they got a message in childhood that they weren't good enough, and their negative self-talk is a part of them that hasn't healed. Looking a little deeper lets you shift from your inner critic to your inner champion."

ID your critic type

There are three main kinds of internal naysayers: perfectionist, taskmaster, and underminer. Knowing which "bullhorn" your inner bully prefers will help you muzzle it, says Weiss. "If the perfectionist tells you that you could be doing better, say, 'It's good enough for now.'" While perfectionism can lead to procrastination, for fear of not being good enough, the taskmaster is all go-go-go: "it never lets you rest. to quiet this voice, just repeat: 'It's enough. Life's about balance'" The most toxic of all "critics" is the underminer because it tells you that you can't succeed. "Remind this voice: 'It's okay to dream big--if I stumble, I'll learn from it.'" Simply using the right response can help silence negativity.

Take a pause

Rather than berate the voice that berates you, channel the voice that celebrates you, encourages expert Susan MacKenty Brady. "When harsh words start to play in your mind, take a deep breath and pause to help ground yourself," she advises. "Simply relax and picture the bighearted, empowering part of you standing independently from your inner critic, reminding you just how you've accomplished and overcome throughout your life."

Boost resilience
Find peace

We all stumble at times, and the trick to ensuring we get back up is telling ourselves two words: "It's understandable", says expert Beverly Engel. "Just say, 'It's understandable that I get really nervous when I get a new assignment at work,' or, 'It's understandable that I have trouble dealing with negative people.' This empathy is the biggest missing puzzle piece when we're down on ourselves after a setback, and whispering it to ourselves gives us hope that we can grow and succeed."

Lean on your wise tribe

The more we surround ourselves with a chorus of support, the fainter the voice of our inner critic becomes, says MacKenty Brady. "I'm anti-'superwoman'--the unfair expectation that we can do it all ourselves," she says. "Instead call on your team of friends, and let them listen to your doubts, just as you listen to theirs. When we lean on others, we borrow their confidence, until we can be confident in ourselves."

Keep shining your light

One of the most helpful questions to ask yourself is: What makes my best self thrive? "Some of it will be deep, like having meaningful conversations, and some of it will be fun, like getting your nails done," says MacKenty Brady. "Self-care is a conscious intention from moment to moment. You can't shine your light if you're casting your own shadow on it, so be sure to let yourself shine."

Besides utilizing the tips in the 👆above article...

Besides utilizing the tips in the above article, that's how a coach (such as myself) can assist you with the following:

  • Setting realistic goals that you can accomplish that won't overwhelm/burn you out (for example, I once had a client tell me that she was having a hard time maintaining her goal of applying to a job a day. I had mentioned that unemployment required you to apply for 3 jobs a week to obtain unemployment & even though she may not have been on unemployment, I suggested she try applying for 3 jobs a week instead so then she could maintain that & then exceed it if she still wanted to apply for more job/(s) past her weekly goal).
  • Not putting off something that could be easier than you think (for example, I put off installing an angel view mirror in my car for a couple months. It was on my "to do list" but I'd somehow not get to it and I believe it was because even though I had long read the instructions & user manual & it seemed pretty easy/not complicated that I didn't want to do [would've ❤️ed if someone else did for me 🙂] AND also thought it may not work [had seen only 1 review total for the item with a customer that complained it didn't work in their car]. However, this week when I went out to my car to do (as it was on my "to do" list that day), I'm going to tell you it was literally like 2 minutes to snap on & no tools involved. I know not even 5 minutes of work. (Angel view mirror is a mirror that shows blind spots. It did take like a trip or 2 driving with this new mirror to get used to since it shows much more than a regular rearview mirror, but I've adjusted to it). It's photographed below.

  • Just plain needing guidance/advice in your career or business marketing as you can't do it all by yourself. I'm going to give you a very present (recent) example of what I mean that you can't do it all by yourself (regardless of how diligent you are): 10 days I dealt with very nagging pain that would NOT go away & would hinder me being able to bend over completely to do basic tasks such as washing my feet in the shower, putting lotion on my lower parts of my body, throwing my head upside down to put my hair in a towel after washing it, working out fully, as some examples. Yes, I took action immediately when this happened & stopped doing exercises that I believed was working my back, worked out less/modified my workouts (walking was best), got a massage last week from a new massage therapist I'd never been to since it was my first time not being able to get in with my usual one (big mistake) the service was awful in addition to treatment that didn't really help, I implemented specific/more stretches, icing didn't help, used massager devices, put my own pressure (for the right pyriformis pain), the drug free pain patch didn't work on my right glute (but works great for other pain), used BioFreeze on my right si joint (right lower back), tried getting into my chiropractor, bought this rocker device (photographed below) where you can adjust it to 2 different levels that can be used when sitting (different inclines). I knew this device would help me as it can assist with my posture better than cushions or just trying to have great constant posture on your can. I even ordered an inexpensive back belt that velcro's around you & has plastic nodes on it that can dig into certain areas around your lower back that can be worn for lower back pain & other pain in your body (this got cancelled from Amazon I have no idea & they refunded me), ensured I was carefully & properly getting out of bed correctly & I always properly get in my car correctly (a chiropractic assistant showed me many years ago to assist with lower back pain when I was in a bad car accident that wasn't my fault), moving slowly/cautiously when bending/squatting, but by sharing all these examples one could see that I was doing everything I could to improve my situation & get rid of my problem (no different than anyone would if they had a career situation they wanted to improve/get rid of). However, it was not until I looked the day before yesterday morning (5 hours before my massage therapist had an opening on the same day) & I went to her & we discussed everything I was doing when she worked on me & she recommended I try heat that night & NOT poke that area for a day (I hadn't done heat anymore after hearing previously this year from another massage therapist to just ice). That the next day (today) I feel significantly better did NOT get rid of pain completely, but I can tell you that I am in a WAY better situation than I was BEFORE going to her. So my point of explaining all this: it doesn't make you weak, incapable, etc. for hiring a professional for assistance with something. I’ll leave you with this quote to ponder: “Change happens when the pain of staying the same is greater than the pain of change.” --Tony Robbins

Phone consultations are available for purchase thru Mon. 9/30/24 BEFORE 11:30 pm PST

All of this is for $95.52 (which includes my newsletter's debit/credit card processing fees so that I can net my $90 rate).

The above consultation is great for those who aren't ready to commit to a brand-new resume creation by me/may just want to get recommendations for improving their resume if they want to implement themselves. The consultation is also great to get an idea of what your career goals/needs are (i.e. if you don't know what career services to purchase) & what you need to do if you want to work with me (i.e. if you need a brand-new resume creation, brand-new cover letter creation, & an interview practice session you can determine how/when you'd fund them if you're not doing all at once).

The ability for us to ask/answer any questions we may have during this timeframe as well. NOTE: You don't have to have a LinkedIn profile to do this consultation. All of this is for $95.52 (which includes my newsletter's debit/credit card processing fees so that I can net my $90 rate).

The above consultation is great for those who aren't ready to commit to a brand-new LinkedIn creation/revamp by me/may just want to get recommendations for improving their LinkedIn profile if they want to implement themselves. The consultation is also great to get an idea of what your LinkedIn goals/needs are & what you need to do if you want to work with me (i.e. if you need a LinkedIn revamp, LinkedIn marketing package, & a LinkedIn training session you can determine how/when you'd fund them if you're not doing all at once). These are just some examples, I offer many other services. 😊

Consultation option #3: 30-minute Writing, Editing, or Marketing project consultation & project review (I will have you fill out an 11-question form to fill out PRIOR to our call where I'll get a better idea of your writing, editing, marketing needs) as well as review your project [if applicable] beforehand (i.e. your website if you want to rewrite copy on it, your essay/assignment for school, your book, etc.) At the call, I will discuss my findings/recommendations with how I can help with your project (including pricing) &/or anything else you may have filled out in that form. The ability for us to ask/answer any questions we may have during this timeframe as well. NOTE: You don't have to have a project for me to review to do this consultation. All of this is for $95.52 (which includes my newsletter's debit/credit card processing fees so that I can net my $90 rate).

The above consultation is great for those who have a project for me that they need help with &/or want to see how I can help them with some marketing for their business. The consultation is also great to get ideas of some marketing, writing, editing that could be done in your business & what you need to do if you want to work with me (i.e. if you need a business plan, copy written for your website, & more marketing consults for your business, you can determine how/when you'd fund them if you're not doing all at once). These are just some examples, I offer many other services. 😊

Consultation option #4: 30-min. to discuss any questions/situations you may have in your career or business where you'd want to enlist my advice & guidance OR as a great add-on (refer to definition below in this section). This consultation would also serve as a great add-on to another consultation (i.e. if a client wants me to review another resume, a cover letter, or other writing, editing, or marketing project). All of this is for $95.52 (which includes my newsletter's debit/credit card processing fees so that I can net my $90 rate).

Consultation option #5: 60-min. to discuss any questions/situations you may have in your career or business where you'd want to enlist my advice & guidance OR as a great add-on (refer to Consultation #4 above in this section the only difference is this would be 60-min. instead of 30). All of this is for $190.74 (which includes my newsletter's debit/credit card processing fees so that I can net my $180 rate).

(If you want to pay outside of newsletter without a debit/credit card & with U.S. cash or money order, it would be $90 for all the consultations described above that are $95.52 when paying in my newsletter & $180 for the $190.74 consultation when paying in my newsletter per consultation you wanted to purchase & read to the bottom of this section of my newsletter that reads: "If you want to pay outside of newsletter without a debit/credit card...").

Here's the link (click on here) to the document (PDF) for the terms & conditions for the consultation purchase/(s) (I can no longer put on a landing page after you click on the "event registration form" like I could with my newsletter's old event registration system).

Here's the link to take you directly to my registration page to purchase your consultations: https://lp.constantcontactpages.com/ev/reg/n6paz7n

PLEASE BE SURE TO FOLLOW THE VERY EASY & QUICK INSTRUCTIONS (THEY ARE PROVIDED IN DETAIL) FOR ALMOST ANYONE TO UNDERSTAND TO SUCCESSFULLY PROCESS YOUR PAYMENT ORDER (after visiting my above registration page link). Thank you! 🙏🙂

If you want to pay outside of newsletter without a debit/credit card & with U.S. cash or money order, the deadline to purchase & terms & conditions still apply. You'd have to print off my terms & conditions document, sign & print your full name, date, & state that you understand & will abide by the terms & conditions AND then scan and email me ALL pages of the terms & conditions document NOT just your signed page. Then you'd have to visit a Harborstone Credit Union (there are locations in other cities than Puyallup, WA that may be of convenience to you) & visit them as soon as possible after submitting me your signed terms & conditions document during Harborstone's hours of operation to pay for your consultation/(s) with U.S. cash with a teller to "Carly Calabrese's Work Solutions (business account)." You don't need any other information to make this deposit including my account number. You'd send an email to me at: [email protected] confirming this visit/transaction after it was completed. You can always opt to snail mail your payment to me, but I don't make my mailing address public, so you'd have to email me for it. You could then snail mail the printed off & signed terms & conditions document & include with your payment. Please ensure to budget for extra time for snail mail to arrive (even if you're local to the Puyallup, WA area) as delays can occur even during non-high volume mail times (i.e. Christmas time) & you may miss the mail pick up time when you put it in the mail meaning it wouldn't go out until the next mail pick up business day. Thank you! As mentioned before, if you've never emailed me before/got a new email address, etc. to ensure your email gets to me & NOT in my SPAM folder, you can always opt to email me through my website form since it goes directly to my inbox here: http://www.worksolutionstoday.com/contact.html Thank you! 🙏
